Yuri H. TEMIRKANOV
Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg State Philharmonic
named after D.D. Shostakovich, Chief Conductor of the Philharmonic's
Academic Symphony Orchestra.
Born December 10, 1938 in Nalchik, Northern Russia. Graduated from
the Leningrad State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov,
specializing in viola performance and conducting, under the direction
of I.A. Musin. Graduated from the Conservatory's Graduate School,
where he studied under I.A. Musin. Yu.H. Temirkanov debuted as musician
and conductor in the M. Gorky Major Dramatic Theatre orchestra in
mid 1950's, while still attending the Conservatory. He debuted officially
in 1965 in the Academic Minor Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Worked
as Chief Conductor of the Philharmonic's Academic Symphony Ochestra
(1968-76). Since 1976 he has been Chief Conductor and later (simultaneously)
Artistic Director of the S.M. Kirov Academic Theatre of Opera and
Ballet. Since 1978 he has been working as a permanent guest conductor
at the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and also at the Philadelphia
Orchestra, while continuing his work with the Kirov Theatre. In
1988 he has headed Russia's accomplished Academic Symphony Orchestra
of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. In 1992 he became Chief Conductor
of the London Royal Symphony Orchestra, in 1994 - Chief Guest Conductor
of the Dresden Philharmonic's Orchestra, in 1997 - Chief Guest Conductor
of the Danish Radio Orchestra. Works by J. Brahms, H. Mahler, R.
Strauss, P. Chaikovsky, S. Rakhmaninov, I. Stravinsky, S. Prokofiev,
R. Schedrin and many other composers are in Yu.H. Temirkanov's repertory.
He has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, with the leveland
Orchestra, with the National Orchestra of France, with the Symphony
Orchestra of the Berlin Radio, with the New York and Los Angeles
Philharmonic orchestras. Chairman of the Association of Concert
Performers of the Russian Federation.
Honourary member of the International Academy of Industry, Education
and Art Studies (California, U.S.). Laureate of the National Conductor's
Contest (1966), of the U.S.S.R. and Russian Federation's State Awards
(1971, 1976, 1985). People's Artist of Russia (1976) and of the
U.S.S.R. (1981). Awarded the orders of Lenin, "For Service
to the Country" (3rd degree), of Sts. Kirill and Methodius
(Bulgaria).
Victor Yampolsky
Born
in Soviet Union, Mr. Yampolsky studied with David Oistrakh at the
Moscow Conservatory (violin) and with Nicolai Rabinovich at the
Leningrad (St.Petersburg) Conservatory (orchestral conducting).
From 1965 he was a violinist and an Assistant Conductor of the Moscow
Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1973 Mr. Yampolsky
emigrated to USA. A recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Tanglewood
Scholarship (1973). In 1973 appointed to the Boston Symphony Orchestra
and as BSO Principal Second Violin in 1975. In 1977-1982 appointed
as a Music Director of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra in Halifax,
Nova Scotia and from 1977-1984 the Conductor of the Young Artists
Orchestra at Tanglewood. Since 1979, he became Adjunct Professor
at Boston University School of Music (violin and director of orchestras)
and participated in the Scotia Festival of Music in Halifax as violinist,
conductor and Honorary Director of the Board. Since 1984, Mr. Yampolsky
has been Professor of Music and Director of Orchestras at Northwestern
University. Since 1986, Mr. Yampolsky has been Music Director of
the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin. Since January
1995, Mr. Yampolsky became a Principal Conductor of the National
Symphony Orchestra in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Music Director
of the Omaha Symphony Orchestra. Starting with the 2003- 04 seasons
he became the Music Director Emeritus and Principal Guest Conductor
of the Omaha Symphony. Mr. Yampolsky has appeared as guest conductor
with numerous orchestras in Canada, United States, Russia, Europe,
Israel, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America and
East Asia. Since 1998 Mr. Yampolsky has been invited to participate
in the ASOL Conductors Continuum Panel as a coach and advisor at
National Conductors Previews, Workshops and Seminars. Since the
Summer of 2000 Mr. Yampolsky has been a conductor of the Sewanee
Summer Music Festival in Sewanee, TN. On May 10, 2002 Mr. Yampolsky
received Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from University of Nebraska
in Omaha and on May 18, 2003 received an Honorary Doctor of Fine
Arts from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.
Mr. Yampolsky has recorded for Harmonia Mundi and Kiwi Pacific Records
as well as Classic Digital.

Sian
EDWARDS
Sian Edwards graduated from the Royal
Northern College of Music, and from 1983-85 was a student of Professor
A.I. Musin at the Leningrad Conservatoire and it was during this
time, in May 1984, that she won the first Leeds Conductors' Competition.
Sian Edwards has worked with many of Britain's leading orchestras
including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic,
Royal Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony
Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Hall§ª,
BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, London Mozart
Players, Scottish Chamber
Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, and made
her BBC Prom debut in 1993.
Orchestral engagements abroad have included concerts in the USA
with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra,
the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra,
the Cleveland Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the National Symphony
in Washington, the Atlanta Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the
Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and the Detroit Symphony.³T Engagements
have also included a nationwide tour
of Australia for the ABC and concerts with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra
for the Sydney Festival, concerts with the Orchestre de Paris, Ensemble
Modern, the Ensemble Resonanz in Koeln, the Hessische Rundfunk Frankfurt,
the Schoenberg Ensemble, an extensive tour with the Junge Deutsche
Philharmonie (including Berlin, Cologne and Vienna), SWF-Sinfonieorchester,
the NDR Hamburg, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, the St Petersburg
Philharmonic, the Austrian Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Konzerthaus
in Vienna, the
Rotterdam Philharmonic, Deutsche Symphonie Orchester Berlin, the
Duesseldorfer Symphoniker, and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
Sian Edwards' recording for EMI of Tchaikovsky orchestral music
with the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra received the highest critical
acclaim as did further EMI recordings of: Peter and the Wolf, Britten's
Young Person's Guide, and Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony, all with the
London Philharmonic Orchestra.³T Sian Edwards' acclaimed performance
of Judith Weir's Blond Eckbert with English National Opera was recorded
and released by Collins Classics.

Leonid
KORCHMAR
He had taken classes at Moscow (class by Prof.
Gindzburg) and Leningrad Conservatories. In 1975 he graduated from
Leningrad State Conservatory named after N. Rimsky-Korsakov (class
by Prof. Musin). He was à [assistant] conductor of Saint-Petersburg
Philharmony Orchestra for two years. 1976 - 1979 he was the conductor
of the state symphony orchestras at Voronez and Ekaterinburg.
From 1979 - 1984 he was Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of
the State Saratov Philharmony orchestra. During the years of 1986
- 1988 he was the conductor of the State Saint-Petersburg Chamber
"Saint-Petersburg Opera" musical theatre.
Since 1989 he has been the conductor at Mariinsky Theatre.
He was conducting the orchestras of Saint-Petersburg and Moscow
Philharmonies, Moscow State orchestra many times. He has toured
through Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, USA, France and Portugal with
the company of Mariinsky Theatre and as guest conductor.
During the years 1999 - 2001 at the stage of Mariinsky Theatre and
the halls of St Petersburg and Moscow Philharmonies he had conducted
concert performances of the operas "Didona and Eney",
"Ortheus and Euridica", "Country Honor", "Nabukko"
and others.
He staged the performances of"Somnambule" and "Barber
of Seville" at Kurasaare Opera festival (Estonia)during the
years 2000 - 2001.
He is the Professor of opera and symphony conducting at Saint-Petersburg
conservatory.

Oleg
PROSKURNYA
Director of Advanced Conducting Workshop
Mr. Proskurnya attended orchestral
conducting course under Professor Ilia Musin, and in 1998 was named
Mr. Musin's assistant, working with the International Conducting
Workshop, St.-Petersburg, Russian Federation. From 1999 to 2001,
he served as music director of the Sochi Symphony Orchestra, Russia,
and since 2002 has served as conductor of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic
Society Symphony Orchestra, faculty member of International Conductors
Workshop, USA and has toured through Sweden, Finland, Poland and
the Russian Federation as a guest conductor. From
2005 till 2006 he was a professor of Georgia State College and University,
Department of Music and Theatre. From 2004 till present guest faculty
of
Valdosta State University. Since 2006 Dr. Proskurnya became an assistant
professor and orchestra director of Beloit College (US).
